Healing Art for Mourning Moms
Taught by Alexis Marie Chute, MFA, BFA
A four week art-based course designed to help you grieve and heal from the pain of miscarriage, stillbirth or early infant loss.
In WEEK 1 participants will be welcomed into a judgement-free space to express and discuss their losses. The group will use creative writing to look at grief from different angles and uncover each individuals’ unique healing vocabulary. In WEEK 2 participants will use their writing from the previous week as a jumping-off point in creating meaningful and symbolic collages. WEEK 3 will focus on painting, both from life and abstract, as a creative-outlet in mourning. In WEEK 4 participants will work with clay, discovering the healing-freedom of explorative-play and getting dirty. In an experience where so much is taken from bereaved moms, this course will give participants valued insight and keepsakes for the healing journey.

I have been a big advocate for the correlation between art and healing for many, many years now. I have presented at conferences around the world on this topic, drawing from my experience as a bereaved mom, using art to help heal myself, and as a professional artist and writer.
Many have asked me over the years to teach and the timing has not been spot on – until now. This subject matter has been on my heart for a very long time, and when I got the call from South Pointe Community Centre, asking if I’d be willing, the timing was right.
If you are mourning the loss of a child – from miscarriage, stillbirth, to early infant loss – and ache for an outlet to express that pain and move forward on the healing journey, please join me at Healing Art for Mourning Moms.
Can you please, please come to Rochester, NY and teach this class? I would sfn up to take it now except I don’t live there. You definitely can’t do it online
Hi Julie, thank you so much for your message! I would be happy to travel to Rochester to teach this class if there is a supporting organization involved. Do you belong to a support community? Or is there a hospital orgaization that would be interested?
Sending you strength for the journey,
Alexis Marie
This sounds so wonderful. I lost my son 11 weeks ago, he was 55 days young. This grieving changes daily…but the art connection I can understand. Bless all of us mommies–
Hi Loni,
Thank you so much for sharing your son with me and the readers here. He will always be remembered. What is his name? I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my son at birth – I cannot imagine what it would be like saying goodbye at 55 days. How are you doing? Really, how are you really doing?
Sincerely, and with love,
Alexis Marie
